About the Staff

The Travel Medicine & Immunization Center (TMIC) is staffed by experienced nurses with expertise in travel health education and immunization administration. The TMIC is under the medical direction of physicians on faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases at The Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.

Teresa Zembower, MD, MPH, Director

Dr. Zembower received her medical training at the Medical College of Georgia, completed her residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, and received Infectious Diseases and Microbiology subspecialty training at Northwestern University Medical School. Recently, she received a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and is an Assistant Professor at The Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. Dr. Zembower is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the Chicago Area Infectious Diseases Society. to the top

Steven Wolinsky, MD, Associate Director

Dr. Wolinsky received his medical training at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, completed his residency at Northwestern University Medical School, and his Infectious Disease subspecialty training at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester. He is the Samuel J. Sackett Prefessor of Infectious Diseases at The Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. to the top

Karen Carson, RN

Karen has over 40 years of nursing experience. She obtained her RN from Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She holds a Bachelor of Science in General Education from Northwestern University. Karen has over 20 years of experience as a travel medicine nurse. to the top

Roberta Al-Khatib, RN

Roberta has over 35 years of nursing experience. She obtained her RN from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from College of St. Francis and a Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law from Loyola University School of Law. Roberta has over 6 years of experience as a travel medicine nurse. to the top
