Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation is as committed to our employees as we are to our patients. We value our employees and their contributions to our mission, and we want to reward them with a comprehensive compensation package. The Foundation offers competitive salaries, an extensive benefits package, and a challenging and rewarding work environment. Our employee benefit programs are designed to support our organizational mission and our strategic goals.

The Foundation provides access to affordable, high quality benefits and we offer flexibility so employees can customize a benefits program to meet their individual lifestyle and family needs. We offer a combination of fully subsidized, partially subsidized and employee-paid programs, and we provide convenient payroll deductions for employee contributions. Our benefits programs are easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to value.

Following is a summary of the benefits available to most Foundation employees. If you have specific questions regarding our benefits programs, please call our Human Resources Department at 312-695-2404 and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you.

The summary of benefits that follows is intended to provide a general overview of the benefits provided to full-time benefits eligible staff at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Variations in benefits may apply based upon job class, length of service, or benefits eligibility status. In the event there is a difference between what is described here and the Plan documents, the Plan documents take precedence. The Foundation reserves the right to change, amend and/or eliminate these benefits, with or without notice.

Medical/Dental

For both medical and dental insurance, employees choose from a PPO option or an HMO option, and can elect either single or family coverage. Prescription drug coverage is included under both plans. Each plan features varying levels of coverage, with different co-pay and deductible amounts. Coverage can also be obtained for eligible dependents, including a legal spouse and dependent children under age 25. The Foundation pays a significant portion of the medical and dental premiums. Employee contributions are made via payroll deduction.

Life Insurance

The Foundation provides $50,000 to $100,000 (based upon job class) of basic group term life insurance coverage and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage, at no cost to employees. Spouse life insurance coverage and dependent life insurance coverage is also provided to certain employees. Employees also have an option to purchase supplemental life insurance coverage in amounts equal to one times to four times their annual wage base, up to $1,000,000. This insurance is available at preferred rates. Supplemental life insurance coverage is subject to approval by the Foundation's insurance company and may require evidence of insurability.

Long Term Disability Insurance

The Foundation provides basic long-term disability coverage for employees with a disability income benefit equal to 50% of the employee's monthly wage base, with a maximum disability benefit of $10,000 per month. This coverage is provided at no cost to employees. In addition to the basic coverage provided by the Foundation, employees can elect to purchase supplemental long-term disability insurance coverage for an additional income benefit equal to 16.67% of their monthly wage base.

Retirement

The Foundation makes retirement contributions for employees equal to 6.5% to 12% (based upon job class) of the employee's Foundation salary. These contributions are directed to an annuity or mutual fund(s) of your choice managed by one or more of the Foundation's three retirement vendors.

In addition to the contributions made by the Foundation, employees may elect to make additional voluntary contributions. This voluntary program allows you to maximize the amount you save for retirement from pre-tax earnings, up to the maximum amount permitted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Tuition Reimbursement

The Foundation provides a benefit 100% of tuition and fees up to a maximum of $1,500 per calendar year for eligible part-time employees or $3,000 per calendar year for eligible full-time employees. This benefit may be used at accredited higher education institutions and may be used for a wide range of approved coursework.

Health Care and Dependent Care Spending Accounts

We offer a Health Care and Dependent Care Reimbursement Account Program that allows participating employees to save tax dollars on eligible health care and dependent care expenses. Through participation in the Program, you authorize pre-tax deductions from your pay, then submit eligible health care and/or dependent care expenses for reimbursement from your pre-tax dollars.

Transportation

We offer a Transportation Program that allows participating employees to save tax dollars on eligible transportation expenses and, therefore, reduce the cost of commuting to and from work. Through participation in the Program, you authorize pre-tax deductions from your pay to cover the eligible transportation expenses, including certain public transportation options and parking.

Vacation and Holidays

The Foundation provides eight paid holidays annually to employees, including one floating holiday that can be used at any time throughout the year. Employees also earn between two and five weeks of paid vacation time, depending upon job class and length of service.

Sick Time

The Foundation provides up to 12 paid days each year for absences related to the employee's illness. Unused sick time is carried over to the next year up to the plan maximum.

Child Care

Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, Northwestern University and KinderCare Learning Centers have teamed up to bring convenient child care services to campus. KinderCare @Northwestern operates a center at 446 E. Ontario (near LSD), that is open 52 weeks a year, Monday-Friday from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. The child care center is designed to accept infants thru pre-schoolers.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Through a third party administrator, the Foundation provides a confidential comprehensive Employee Assistance Program that is accessible nationwide. The services offered assist employees and employee family members with a variety of life problems including but not limited to: alcohol and drug abuse, elder care, financial and legal concerns, educational and career-related problems, marital, family and relationship discord, stress, anxiety and depression and childcare.

Leaves of Absence

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) - Compliant with federal law the Foundation provides up to 12 weeks time off, each rolling year to eligible employees in order to take care of certain family and/or medical related situations that may arise. While on leave the employee's job is protected and benefits will continue while the employee remains in paid status*.

Short Term Medical Leave - For employees who do not meet the requirements of the Family Medical Leave Act the Foundation provides a maximum of two weeks off, for illnesses related to the employee's own health.
